Alec Baldwin, who’s hosted Saturday Night Live multiple times, made a surprise appearance on on Saturday night’s ‘Weekend Update’ segment alongside Seth Meyers. Posing as American Airlines pilot Captain Steve Rogers, Baldwin offered an apology - to himself - for the incident last week in which Baldwin got the boot off of an American Airlines flight for refusing to switch off his ‘Words with Friends’ game while taxiing.

Baldwin was greeted with hollers and applause when he rolled out for his surprise cameo on Weekend Update. As Captain Rogers, Baldwin announced “ It was very important for me to come here tonight, and on behalf of everyone at American Airlines, issue an apology to Mr. Alec Baldwin.”

Meyers responded, “Alec, are you sure this is the right way to handle this?” To which Baldwin whispers “Yeah, keep goin’.”

As Captain Rogers, Baldwin asserts throughout the cameo that American Airlines was at fault, and goes on to refer to Baldwin as “too smart for us” and “a hero, a smart hero!” The audience’s approval was evident with rolling laughter and applause.

Baldwin made news last Tuesday when he was removed from the American Airlines flight last for refusing to turn off his mobile game at the request of the flight crew. The news first broke on Twitter, with Alec himself chiming in on the situation. "Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving #nowonderamericaairisbankrupt," he tweeted.

Baldwin, a once serial tweeter, has since deleted his Twitter account. Later on Tuesday, after ranting about his removal from the flight, Baldwin tweeted "Let's play a game called Mass Unfollowing. I want to crash this acct [account] and start again. But, tonight at 10 PM NY time, unfollow me." No word on how many of his followers actually unfollowed Baldwin, but his account now reads as “Deactivated.”

Reports on Baldwin’s actual behavior on the flight have varied. The Daily News reports that In a statement, American Airlines said "This passenger [Baldwin] declined to turn off his cell phone when asked to do so at the appropriate time. The passenger ultimately stood up (with the seat belt light still on for departure) and took his phone into the plane’s lavatory. He slammed the lavatory door so hard, the cockpit crew heard it and became alarmed...The passenger was extremely rude to the crew, calling them inappropriate names and using offensive language. Given the facts above, the passenger was removed from the flight and denied boarding."

What do you think about Baldwin’s behavior? Did the crew overreact? Did he deserve to be kicked off the flight?
