Another sad day for sportsmanship ended with Meath refusing to replay their Leinster Senior Football final with Louth despite the referee admitting he made a serious mistake in allowing a last second winning goal.

The Meath County Board was left with little option when the players voted overwhelmingly not to allow a replay. The vote came despite widespread calls for a replay as the only fair way to settle the matter.

So Meath now join with France in the World Cup who also refused Ireland a replay after an illegal goal was scored.

France never recovered form that decision and were soon booted out of the World Cup.

No matter who Meath play next the vast majority of Irish GAA supporters will feel the same way it seems about them.

It is a sad day for sportsmanship.
