The Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown in general is not that big a mystery.

Follow the trainers who target the Triple Crown races every year.

That means Wayne Lukas, Bob Baffert, Nick Zito and Todd Pletcher.

Look down the field for the Belmont and reality quickly sets in.

It is Nick Zito's race to lose.

The other key trainers do not have their first string or in the case of Lukas have no horse at all.

Zito has the favorite Ice Box and second favorite Fly Down.

The third favorite First Dude has a record of winning only once in seven starts

Ice Box is the only Grade One winner in the race and was unlucky not to win the Derby.

Here is his form line from that race

"ICE BOX, steadied early in traffic, was outrun for six furlongs, made a bold inside run leaving the three-furlong marker, steadied when blocked nearing the stretch, angled out, steadied for a sixteenth of a mile once in the stretch, swung out near the furlong marker for a clear path, then closed a late gap to be steadily getting to the winner late."

In other words, the unluckiest horse not to win the derby in a long time.

Zito has won the Belmont twice in the past six years.

He broke everyone's heart when Birdstone came late to beat Smarty Jones and spoil his Triple Crown bid.

He should notch up his third Belmont tomorrow.

At 3/1 morning line run, don't walk to the betting windows.
