On April 13, Concern Worldwide U.S., the international humanitarian organization, is hosting its 15th Annual Spring Run in New York’s Central Park. The event, which is open to the public, supports Concern’s work to break the cycle of poverty and hunger in 25 of the world’s poorest countries.

“What started as a small community run in 1998 in Central Park is now one of our largest events of the year with hundreds of runners and walkers coming out to make a difference in the lives of people living on less than $2 a day,” says Joseph Cahalan, CEO of Concern Worldwide U.S.

“Over the years, our runners have made it possible for us to save and transform thousands of lives, from school children in Haiti to women in Darfur. This year will be no different.”

Registration for the race is open for all individual walkers and runners, teams, and sponsors at concernusa.org/springrun. Many New York City businesses and organizations such as The American Ireland Fund, Brooklyn Brewery, Credit Suisse, Everyday Health, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Irish Business Organization, Irish Network NYC, Irish America Magazine, Irish Central Community News, JP Morgan Chase, Urban Athletics, Meridian, Northern Ireland Bureau, Tait, Weller & Baker have entered the Spring Run. All donations, including the registration fee, will support Concern’s work across 25 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.

Concern hopes to raise $200,000 this year in support of its programs through the Spring Run, a goal that will have a tremendous impact on the lives of the world’s poorest people. Even the registration fee ($30 for individual/$25 for team members) can provide farming tools, seeds, a garden fence, business training, and a small market stall that will allow a person living in extreme poverty to grow and sell crops—an investment that will allow him or her to earn an income to support themselves and their families.

The race kicks off at 9:30 am and ends with an after-party at New York City’s East End Bar, which includes a free breakfast for all event participants.
