Some folks can get mighty upset when stereotypes about the Irish and booze get into the mainstream, but we’ll give George Clooney a pass for the Irish gag that he aired on Sunday night during the E channel’s red carpet coverage of the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Gorgeous George was, of course, accompanied by his latest lady friend, former pro wrestler Stacy Keibler, who was asked by E host Giuliana Rancic if it was true that she used alcohol bottles to do lunges on her perfectly toned body, and if that happened to be on George’s advice.

Stacy laughed and her man interjected, “I’m Irish. To us that’s exercise!” Too funny George!

Rancic then asked the Oscar frontrunner if he’d ever “drop trau” in a movie, like Irish actor Michael Fassbender did recently in Shame. (Clooney memorably paid tribute to Fassbender’s exposed privates at the Golden Globes, you may remember.)

“You know, I’m 50, so it’s just trying to get my trau up that’s my problem,” joked Clooney.

Hmmm . . . somehow we don’t foresee that being a problem for the forever hunk, whose father is currently participating in an Irish-produced documentary about the Clooney family’s Co. Kilkenny roots that’s going to be aired in Ireland in April. Clooney has also said he’s planning a motorcycle tour of the country this year, so he certainly seems to be getting his Irish up!
