Police in Australia are concerned about the whereabouts of a missing Irishwoman as her husband issued a desperate plea for information.
Jill Meagher, a 29-year-old Drogheda woman who has been living in Melbourne for the past three years, was last seen leaving a bar in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Her husband fears she may have been abducted after spending the evening with colleagues from the ABC radio station in the city.
Tom Meagher told Nine News: “She is really steady, a really sturdy person. Really funny, she’s my best friend. This is something that she doesn’t do.”
Meagher has set-up a Facebook page about his wife’s disappearance while family and friends have put up posters seeking information.
Police are scouring CCTV footage and examining Jill’s phone and bank records for any leads.
Husband Tom told the Herald Sun newspaper that he fears ‘something terrible’ has happened to his wife.
He added: “We’ve checked with all the hospitals, but I think that someone has done something to her. I fear that because it’s not something she would do without contacting anybody.
“It’s just really, really strange and I just think something must have happened. I’m absolutely freaking out. I just wish I knew where she was.”
Police understand that Jill left the bar to walk to her home in the nearby Brunswick suburb.
Detective Sergeant Steve Bull told reporters the disappearance is out of character for Jill.
He said: “We have concerns for her safety and have been reviewing CCTV footage of the area in an attempt to trace her movements.
“Our concerns are that this seems to be totally out of character for Jillian and we would just like to get to the bottom of it and find out what’s happened to her.
“We have concerns for her safety at this stage and where she might be.”
