IrishCentral is happy to show a preview of the much awaited Keough Naughton School of Irish Studies at Notre Dame production of 1916 The Irish Rebellion.
The three hour series - which will also be turned into an 80 minute feature - is set to be shown in America on PBS, on RTE in Ireland, on the BBC in Britain, and all around the world, is narrated by film star Liam Neeson. It will bring the events of Easter 1916 to a global audience and highlight connections which have significance up to and including the recent Irish peace process
The Keough Naughton School enlisted the aid of top Irish producers directors and Irish American and Irish academics in the making of the historic documentary.
With the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising occurring in 2016 the film will be a major contribution to the anniversary of the Rising.
It will be officially launched on March 3 at Notre Dame campus and later in March at a gala event in Dublin by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

To delve into the series’ background, listen to Bríona Nic Dhiarmada, Professor of Irish Studies and Concurrent Professor of Film, Television, and Theatre, who is the creator and one of the producers behind the project, give an intro to the complexities surrounding 1916 and a look into how she went about translating this historic moment into a television series.
You can also hear some of the Notre Dame students assisting the documentary production talk about their work in Dublin bringing the project to fruition.
