Purple majesty Prince pulled out of a concert last June at Croke Park 10 days before the June 16 date, and now the Irish promoters, MCD, are seeking a princely sum for their troubles – in the region of $2 million. MCD claims that Prince canceled the show on “a whim,” and therefore they lost out on insurance and had to personally refund the more than 55,000 tickets sold. Prince’s Irish legal team says that MCD’s claim is “greatly inflated.” . . .

Good news for fans of Moya Brennan, the traditional Irish singer from Clannad – she’s been tapped to host a new PBS series on Irish music that will start shooting later this summer, according to the Sunday Tribune. "Part of the reason they approached me is that I know all of the people taking part. That's why I feel less a presenter and more a thread running through all these musicians and their music,” said Moya, who’s currently touring the U.S. with Ashley Davis (see our “Craic” section for Mike Farragher’s review of the show.) Some pretty heavy hitters are lined up to take part in the series, among them Sinead O’Connor, Oscar winner Glen Hansard from the film "Once," and the Chieftains. Who knows, maybe even Moya’s reclusive sister, the multi-million selling artist Enya, will also make an appearance . . .

Pierce Brosnan played a superhero during days as 007 agent James Bond, but now he’s a real life star, and none other than actress Uma Thurman is the beneficiary of his bravery. Currently in Vancouver filming "Percy Jackson," Thurman was nearly on the wrong end of a runaway van, until Brosnan stepped in. "No one was aboard … as it barreled towards a grassy area where Uma was relaxing with cast and crew. Pierce yelled, 'Get out of the way!' He raced after the van, wrenched open the driver's side door, jumped in and slammed on the brakes,” according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald. "Everyone scattered out of harm's way. Pierce got kudos and hero 007 jokes from Uma.”
