Enda Kenny, the leader of Ireland's main opposition party, Fine Gael, was in New York last week to meet with various Irish organizations and attend a Fine Gael fundraiser at the Manhattan Club.Kenny met with speaker of New York City Council Christine Quinn and visited the East Side Tenement Museum on Thursday afternoon.Last Thursday evening, at the party's fundraising dinner, Kenny discussed in detail the plight of the Irish undocumented and told a room full of Irish and Irish Americans that "a solution needs to be found very soon." Kenny spoke with several Irish undocumented about their situation and pledged his support in finding a solution.On Friday morning, after attending a breakfast for the American Ireland Fund Young Business Leaders at the consul general of Ireland's residence, Kenny attended a briefing at Ireland House. Over lunch, served by the Aisling Irish Community Center in Yonkers, Kenny met with staff of the Aisling Center and the Emerald Isle Immigration Center of the Bronx and Queens where he spent over an hour discussing the matter of immigration in their areas and other concerns pertaining to the Irish community.In the afternoon, Kenny met with leaders of the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform and some of the undocumented. Again, the Fine Gael leader vowed to bring the issue back to the Irish government.
