Would-be mugger was tied to pole in shame by Florida man

A Florida man visiting Dublin took matters into his own hands after a mugger attempted to snatch his belongings.

The scene unfolded on Moore Street in Dublin city when the would-be thief approached the American tourist and attempted to run off with his bag and cell phone.

Witnesses said the American, reportedly a “big man”, got a few digs in on the attempted thief before tying him to a nearby pole with camping rope. The American then phoned police as bystanders laughed at the man tied to the pole.

One onlooker said of the alleged thief, “He won't be doing that again any time soon.”

Police confirmed the incident to Buzz.ie: "Gardaí in Store Street were called to an incident on Moore Street on Tuesday the 14th of August 2018 at approx. 6.30pm.”

"The injured party had restrained a suspect and on arrival was handed to Gardaí.”

"Male (40s) was arrested and conveyed to Store Street Garda Station where he remains in custody. Investigations are ongoing."
