Comhrá ’14, the world record attempt for the longest Irish language conversation ever from 5 - 12 October 2014, is launched Sunday, 5 October. Comhrá’14 is being streamed live on www.snag.ie where 169 hours of Irish language chat can be seen and heard non-stop from its start at 12.00pm on 5 October until its finale at 1.00pm on 12 October.

The world record attempt, Comhrá ’14, will be launched with a special show on the national Irish language radio station for young people, Raidió Rí-Rá, and on the Seachtain na Gaeilge website, www.snag.ie, at 12.00pm today, Sunday, 5 October 2014. The show will include interviews with the world record attempt team about partaking groups, highlights and challenges of the week ahead.

After the hour long launch, the conversation will continue with another 168 hours of Irish language conversation sessions which are being organised by more than 70 groups from every corner of Ireland and the world for 7 days, 24 hours a day, non-stop.

Brenda Ní Ghairbhí, Bainisteoir Sheachtain na Gaeilge said: “We have been preparing for Comhrá ’14 for the last couple of months and we’re very excited now to be finally launching the initiative. It will be a challenging but fun and exciting week for us and all the groups involved; we wish the very best of luck to all participants and we hope to have good news at the end of the week and a world record attempt under our belts for the thing we love most - chatting as Gaeilge!”

It is through the live stream on www.snag.ie that the series of Irish language conversation circles from all over the world will be linked to make one continuous conversation during this special week. The wider public can join in the conversation by following it live on www.snag.ie and tweeting the participants and audience with the hashtag #Comhrá14.

Among the 70+ groups that are registered to take part in the world record attempt, there are schools, voluntary Irish groups, organisation, radio stations, third level Irish societies, sports clubs and groups as far away Scotland, Belgium, France, the Czech Republic, Canada, USA, Australia and even Beijing in China! There will be lively discussions on a wide range of topics, interviews, music, singing, dancing, literature and even a yoga class as part of the week long conversation.

There are still gaps in the timetable however and more groups are needed to fill the spaces. If you and a friend or group of friends have Irish, and are in the mood for a challenge, a chat and a bit of craic, check out the world record attempt’s timetable on www.snag.ie and contact the Seachtain na Gaeilge office on +353 (0)1 4757401 or comhra@cnag.ie without delay to book a day and time to contribute to Comhrá ’14.
