As the name implies, Guinness Draught Stout was created to be served on tap ('draught' is simply the Irish spelling of 'draft'), but what makes Draught Stout different is that is the world's first-ever beer to be dispensed with nitrogen, rather than conventional CO2. To make the nitro-effect available outside the pub, we invented 'the widget', a small nitrogen-filled sphere that surges when the beer is opened. This is why a Guinness Draught Stout should always be poured into a glass rather than sipped straight from the can. In this video, Guinness brewers and one of our widget experts explain how it all works.
