Black and white, Eleanor, was rescued by My Lovely Horse Rescue just two years ago.

The beautiful animal was this week stolen from the charity's Kildare base, with staff "beyond devastated."

Speaking on Midlands 103 on Wednesday, co-founder Martina Kenny told of how the charity received comments that Eleanor was back with her "rightful owners" and would be "off to [UK fair] Appleby and sold."

She said: "We want her back, we’ll go through every single thing we have.

"Now, we’re getting a team together to have to go to the UK.

"This is the biggest horse fair — a horrible fair — in Europe, in the UK, and now we have to travel there as well."

A social media post shared to Facebook appealed for the return of Eleanor.

My Lovely Horse Rescue said: "This sweet little girl was rescued two years ago and has done nothing to deserve this.

"If the person or people responsible are reading this, please do the right thing and return her safely.

"If you have any information about where Eleanor may be, no matter how small it seems, please contact us.

"Every call, text and message will be treated in the strictest confidence."
