Parts of Ireland were treated to some snow today, Wednesday, January 17, prompting Ireland's always creative social media users to share their #sneachta (that's "snow," in Irish!) snaps.

Met Éireann, the Irish meteorological service, enacted a Status Yellow warning for snow and ice for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo from Wednesday morning through 11 am on Thursday. Snow showers could lead to some accumulations in those areas may create difficult travelling conditions and some travel and service disruption.

A Status Yellow snow and ice warning is also in place for Cos Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry until 11:59 pm. The UK Met Office forecast: "Frequent heavy snow showers will continue to push inland, likely disrupting travel across the region."

Meanwhile, all of Ireland is under a Met Éireann weather advisory until Friday.

"Arctic air will bring winter hazards this coming week. Sharp to severe frosts expected with icy stretches on roads and pavements," Met Éireann said.

"Some sleet or snow will occur at times too, mostly for northern areas, and especially for hills."

While Met Éireann warned of some adverse conditions due to the snow, the weather also made Ireland look even more spectacular than usual, with plenty of people sharing their #sneachta snaps on X, formerly Twitter.
