Ice skater Jason Brown received a standing ovation after he reprised his famous "Riverdance" routine this month at the 2026 US Figure Skating Championships.

While his 2014 routine was a free skate, this year's was a short program. Both, however, were backed by "Reel Around the Sun," which was composed by Bill Whelan for the world-famous Irish dance production "Riverdance."

"It wasn't absolutely perfect, but they were with him every Irish step of the way," an NBC Sports commentator remarked as Brown soaked up enthusiastic applause after he concluded his short program in St. Louis.

"The condition you have to be in to run a full marathon and then Irish jig to the finish line is outrageous," another observed.

Brown's "Riverdance" skate, choreographed by Rohene Ward, landed him in third place in the short program. However, after the free skate competition, he landed eighth place among the men overall at the 2026 US Figure Skating Championships.

Last weekend, he was named as an alternate to the 2026 US Olympic Team, which he described as "heartbreaking."

Brown's "Riverdance" reprisal comes 12 years after he first unveiled a version of it at the 2014 US Figure Skating Championships.

“I remember after I competed my free program, I got a text from my brother saying, ‘Oh my gosh, a video of your program already has 1,500 views,'” Brown told NBC ahead of this year's US Figure Skating Championships.

“An hour later, he calls, ‘It just hit 100,000 views.’ And then by the end of the day, it was like a million, and then 2 million, and then 3 million. Crazy at that time.”

Not only did Brown's 2014 performance go viral, but it also won him the free skate portion of the competition, resulting in a second-place finish overall, and earned him a spot on the US Olympic team for Sochi 2014.

Brown took "Riverdance" to Sochi that February, where the performance won him a Bronze medal in the team event.

Last summer, Brown reflected on the "Riverdance" accompaniment: “This is a piece of music that no matter where I go, anywhere in the world, people will share some story about what it's meant to them, or how it got them into skating, or just their memory of that program."

The 31-year-old insisted ahead of this month's US Figure Skating Championships that revisiting his "Riverdance" routine was not a goodbye, but instead a thank you to his fans.
