Gardaí [Irish police] are now set to launch a murder investigation into the death, which is being treated as a targeted attack.

Qayyum was stabbed three times during an event at a club in Bewley’s on Grafton Street at around 3 am.

It is understood he was first stabbed in the arm in an initial attack on Grafton Street, before being pursued onto nearby Clarendon Street, where he was attacked again, later dying from his injuries.

It is suspected he was targeted twice during the course of the incident, including being hunted down as he ran for his life.

He was found in a serious condition and taken to St James’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Family calls for justice

Qayyum’s family have spoken for the first time since his death.

His mother, Teslimot Balogun, and stepmother, Loveth Patrick, spoke to RTÉ’s Una Kelly, calling for justice for the young man.

The interview aired on RTÉ Radio 1’s Drivetime on Tuesday at 4.30pm.
