Writer and show creator Steven Knight is back in the hot seat with two new series commissioned, which will both be set in Birmingham in 1953. Kudos and Garrison Drama will produce the show which is set to be filmed at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham.

A "thrilled" Stephen confirmed: "Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz.

"The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride."

The two new series would both feature six 60-minute-long episodes, which will be streamed on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, as well as Netflix worldwide.

Stephen reprises his role as writer and creator and will be joined by Cillian Murphy, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan and Danielle Scott Haughton for executive producing duties.

Director of BBC Drama, Lindsay Salt branded the show "game-changing" when it came to TV screens 12 years ago, adding that she couldn’t wait to see the scripts brought to life in Birminham.

Netflix’s Mona Qureshi added that the streaming service ‘couldn’t be more excited’ to embark on a new chapter of Peaky Blinders.

"There are few modern storytellers to match Stephen Knight and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham," she added.

It comes as eager fans await the "Peaky Blinders" movie, with star Cillian Murphy last month confirming that filming had concluded.

Speaking to RTÉ Radio 1’s Oliver Callan, the Cork man said: "The film is done. We’re working on it, I’m really happy with it. I hope the fans will be really happy with it; my impulse is very much to make it for the fans.

"The show became the show because of the fans and because of people talking about it, and dressing up and really caring about the characters."
