Macklemore announces ‘Free Palestine’ tour coming to Dublin

US rapper Macklemore has announced that he is coming to Dublin next month for his ‘Free Palestine’ tour.

The American Grammy winner announced the tour, which will also stop in Paris and London, after he was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s ‘LOOP’ tour for his frequent ‘Free Palestine’ remarks on stage.

Ed Sheeran admitted he made ‘mistakes’ over the situation, with many believing he didn’t stand up to the stadium owners, led by Gillette Stadium’s Robert Kraft, who didn’t want Macklemore to perform due to his stance on Palestine.

Macklemore’s ‘Free Palestine’ Dublin show will take place at the 3Arena on Monday, October 26, with the rapper saying that all proceeds from the tour will go to ‘benefit organisations supporting the Palestinian people and movement.’

A Three+ presale for the Dublin show will take place from 10am on 28 September, with general sale from 10am on 30 September.

In a post to social media announcing the tour, Macklemore said: ‘If these last couple of weeks have shown us anything, it’s that something has shifted over the last three years.’

He added that there has been a ‘collective awakening around Palestinian liberation, the power of billionaires that try to censor that call, and what we expect from artists right now.

‘Being apolitical during a genocide doesn’t work anymore. People are asking artists to show up, educate themselves and be in community. To use the stage for more than entertainment. To push back when the call for a Free Palestine is met with attempts to silence it.’

The rapper also said that other acts will be announced in due course, as well as dates in the US.
