Kathy Griffin’s new memoir, “Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin,” reveals some juicy details about the Irish-American comedian’s love life.
Griffin has mentioned a couple times in the past that she had a brief, torrid affair with comic actor Jack Black, but now she’s sharing the rather gross details of their relationship.
In the no-holds-bar tell-all, which was released on Tuesday, the “My Life on the D-List” star admits Black wasn’t the most charming boyfriend.
“One time, I spent the night at Jack’s place,” Griffin writes. “I got up the next morning to take a shower so I could leave.
“When I got out, I couldn’t find anything to dry myself with. ‘Jack, where are the towels?’ I yelled out. He said, ‘Um, I just have one that I use for a bathmat and a towel. So it’s the one on the floor.’”
Griffin also dishes about how talk show host and fellow comedian Conan O’Brien stood her up.
The fiery haired funny lady says she and O’Brien “go way back.” Griffin, who was an up and coming standup act at the time, met O’Brien when he was a writer for “The Simpsons,” and developed a “scheme” to get him to date her.
She asked the fellow Irish-American to go out for pizza and write a sketch together. Though Griffin put her best flirting tactics to use, O’Brien was unresponsive.
But the brazen comic didn’t give up, and asked O’Brien to be her date at a mutual friend’s wedding. He said “sure,” but didn’t follow through on his promise, calling her on the day of the wedding day claiming he was “sick.”
“I was humiliated and went to the wedding by myself, and wouldn’t you know it, at the end of the reception, in walks Conan,” Griffin writes.
“‘Hi, feeling better?’ I said to him. I think he thought he could wait me out. But of course, I’m the last to leave any party, so I was there for his secret appearance.”
It took 10 years before O’Brien asked Griffin to come on his “Late Night” show, but Griffin says the two have since reconciled, and couldn’t be happier for each other’s success.
