Woman urges people to stop using well-known Irish name with unfortunate meaning

There are so many Irish names out there, and some of them have absolutely gorgeous meanings. But some have less than favourable meanings, which may not bother you, but should definitely be taken into account when naming your little one.

One woman named Kelly has shared an Irish name that isn’t too popular as a first name here, but it is beloved in the US, usually appearing in the top 100 most popular names. The name is Kennedy, and it’s no surprise that parents across the pond love it, given its Irish connection.

Kennedy is a gender neutral name and these days is more popular for baby girls; it comes from the surname Ó Cinnéidigh and although it is often cited as meaning "armour headed" it can also mean "ugly head" which is what this content creator is pointing out.

"I know you think it’s a cutsey name, it’s got a ‘K’, it’s got a ‘Y’ it sounds a little bit cutsey, out there, exotic," Kelly told followers.

She went on to tell followers that the name is not as cute as they think it is, asking if people actually knew what it meant.

"It means ugly head, it means helmet head," she said
