If you’re on the hunt for a beautiful and unusual name for your baby boy, then look no further.
One name in particular was only given to four little boys born in Ireland last year, and we think it’s the perfect choice if you want something that’s not too hard to pronounce but is also unique.
The name Éimhín came in at number 655 on the list of top boys’ names in 2024.
According to Behind the Name, the name originates from the old Irish word éim, meaning ‘swift’ or ‘prompt,’ and was the name of a 7th-century saint who founded a monastery in Kildare.
Interestingly, it’s the first time the name has appeared on the Central Statistics Office naming data list, as it’s the first year it’s been given to three or more babies.
If Éimhín isn’t to your liking and you’re still on the hunt for an unusual Irish name, a fluent Irish speaker and content creator recently pointed out a name that was “only given to five babies” worldwide in 2024, and it’s such a sweet moniker.
The name is Daimhín and it comes from the Irish word for ox, Damh, meaning little ox, while other interpretations are ‘little stag’ or ‘little deer’ – although there is also another very popular Irish name that means little deer.
According to Vivienne, the name Daimhín was only given to five babies in the world in 2024, and in Ireland, it was given to fewer than three babies, according to the CSO.
