A Co Carlow teenager who had been receiving intensive treatment for a rare form of cancer in Texas has been given the dream news: She’s now cancer free.

After 18 months of treatment in Texas for a rare form of cancer, Irish 19-year-old Shauntelle Tynan has finally been given the all-clear.

Back in February 2017, Tynan’s story went viral when she posted a plea to help fund her US treatment for histiocytosis-x, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. To date, the GoFundMe has raised over $750,000, allowing the Irish teenager to travel to America to receive the medical care she so drastically needed.

“This is the day we have dreamed about and anticipated for so long! Shan will have ongoing issues and she will remain on oral chemo as maintenance for the next 12-18 months,” her family said.

“We are so lost for words right now but [I] wanted you all to know that my journey of active cancer has come to a close and we hope it remains that way!” Tynan added.

“The future obstacles I will face will be worth everything I’ve been through. Now I truly have a chance at life and will keep you all updated [as] to how I grow in the future.”

The Co Carlow native is set to get back to Ireland in October, returning to Texas every few months to receive follow-up treatment.

Incredible news, Shauntelle!
