Barry Daly, a father of four, was found dead in Mallow, Cork.Facebook
A post-mortem examination on the body of the 44-year-old father-of-four is scheduled to get underway on Monday morning.
Barry was fatally injured in an assault outside his home in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was a father of four from Doneraile near Mallow in north Cork.
Emergency services were alerted to the area shortly before 2 am, but despite efforts to resuscitate him, Barry was pronounced dead at the scene.
The house and roadway at Rockview Terrace, where he was found, remained cordoned off overnight, as did a second location in the grounds of Doneraile Park.
Detectives believe the man suffered serious head injuries following an assault on the street.
They are probing whether he was involved in an earlier argument in a nearby pub, which may have escalated into the victim being followed and attacked.

They have not yet ruled out a weapon being used to inflict the ‘significant’ head injuries.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to oversee the investigation.
An incident room has been set up in Mallow Garda Station, and a family liaison officer has been assigned to the man’s family.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are seeking anyone who was in the village between midnight and 2 am on Sunday.
They are also appealing for dashcam or mobile phone footage as door-to-door enquiries continue.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31 450, the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
