Scarlett Faulkner.

The 29-year-old mother of one was critically injured after suffering severe head wounds when she was attacked at the side of the R494 road in Birdhill on March 21.

Scarlett had been on life support at Cork University Hospital since the brutal attack, with members of her family sharing updates on social media.

She had been in an induced coma at CUH to help reduce swelling of her brain.

However, as doctors brought her out of the coma, she showed no signs of improvement.

Over the weekend, her loved ones explained that she had failed to respond to treatment and there had been no change in her condition.

In a post on social media, Scarlett’s sister-in-law said she had passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.

Her family have thanked the public for their prayers and support.

Gardaí confirmed that a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support Scarlett’s family.

Last week, Josephine (Joanne) Duffy, partner of Scarlett’s brother Thomas Faulkner, explained that things were ‘not looking good’ and her life support machine was set to be turned off.

She said on Wednesday that the Faulkner family were looking for assistance from people in arranging ‘big love-hearts’, ‘red carpets’, ‘a lilac casket’ and a horse-drawn coach for her funeral.

A 40-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl are before the courts in connection with the incident in Birdhill.

The teenager, who cannot be identified due to her age, is charged with assault causing serious harm to Scarlett.

Meanwhile, the woman faces four charges, including violent disorder, reckless endangerment, and two counts of burglary.

Both the 40-year-old woman and the teenager are due back before Nenagh District Court on April 23.
