Conor McGregor has issued an appeal to his supporters in hopes of getting on the ballot for this year's Irish presidential election - just over a week after he claimed he had the nomination "secured."

Dublin native McGregor, who recently lost his appeal of the Dublin High Court's decision that he is civilly liable for the sexual assault of Nikita Hand, filmed his message outside Government buildings in Dublin.

He had teased his message in a post on social media on Wednesday, adding that it would be "the beginning of a multitude of such messages."

In his video released on Thursday, September 4, McGregor claimed "the general well-being of Irish citizens nationwide has decreased dramatically" under the current Government.

McGregor pointed to rising levels of homelessness, "an intense influx of mass migration," a decline in tourism, and a rise in "danger in our streets."

He said: "Ireland, as a master of marital combat, as a solution-driven man, you will hear me speak on a problem all but once, and then it's action toward solution. I urge all of our citizens to be the same."

He added: "Ireland, under my tenure, the will of the people will be heard."

McGregor concluded his video by blessing himself, adding "Amen."

In a post accompanying his recorded message, McGregor proclaimed: "Citizens of Ireland, the time for real change is now!

"As President, I will not sign any bill in law until it goes back to the people first!

"If you want to see my name on the ballot for the Presidency, I urge you to contact your local county councillors today and ask them to nominate me.

"Our councillors are the backbone of our communities. They work harder and deliver more for the people than those in the Oireachtas, who continue to fail this country time and again.

"If you are a councillor who feels your voice is ignored, your hands tied, and your community overlooked, then I ask you to stand with me.

"Nominate me, and I will give you the platform and power to be truly heard.

"If you want to vote for McGregor, it starts now. Call your local councillor today and demand change. Ar aghaidh, ar son na hÉireann!"

The 2025 Irish presidential election will be held on Friday, October 24.

To be eligible for election as President, a candidate must be an Irish citizen who is 35 or older.

Candidates must also be nominated either by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas; at least four local authorities; or former or retiring Presidents can nominate themselves to appear on the ballot. (With current President Michael D. Higgins serving his second term, he is ineligible to run again.)

The nomination period for Ireland's 2025 presidential election begins at 10 am on Friday, September 5, and closes at noon on Wednesday, September 24.

A nomination paper must be delivered by the candidate or one or more of the persons making the nomination or, in the case of a city, or county, or city and county council, by an official of the council.

At the time of writing, the only confirmed candidates for this year's election are Independent TD Catherine Connolly and Fine Gael TD Heather Humphreys.

Jim Gavin and Billy Kelleher are both seeking the Fianna Fáil nomination, while other people understood to be seeking Independent nominations are Nick Delehanty, Joanna Donnelly, Gareth Sheridan, Maria Steen, as well as McGregor.

A nominated candidate may withdraw his or her nomination at any time before the completion of the ruling on nominations, but not thereafter.

McGregor's video on Thursday appealing to his supporters to contact their local councillors to get his name on the ballot comes just over a week after he posted on social media claiming he had the presidential nomination "secured."

"I have councils on board," he posted on August 27.

"TD’s. Senators.

"I even have the most prestigious party of them all.

"It is now about choosing my affiliation."
