Sabina and President Michael D Higgins.RollingNews

Sabina, 84, the wife of President Michael D Higgins, revealed her plans for when her husband's second presidential term comes to an end in October - and she didn't hold back her excitement!

It appears that the non-stop schedule of being the President's wife has taken its toll over the years and Sabina admitted that she plans to sleep, read books, and "not have a bother in the world".

In an interview with RTÉ Nationwide, she told presenter Bláthnaid Ní Chofaig: "We're heading home to Galway," with the couple moving back to their family home in Rahoon.

Bláthnaid replied: "The West will be awake. You'll be heading home. Are you looking forward to it?"

Sabina answered: "Yes, and I hope the West will be asleep and I will be sleeping luxuriously in its lap. And I will be looking up for beautiful Western sunsets and I will not have a bother in the world about what's happening.

"I suppose the President will still be always, people will be coming for him, but I am so looking forward to being...

"It's been non-stop, it's kind of 24 hours a day 365 days. I am so looking forward to being... And so many books that I haven't had a chance [to read] and books that I read and loved."
