Niall Horan on "The Tommy Tiernan Show".RTE
A new series of the hit show is currently underway, with One Direction star turned solo artist Niall Horan among the surprise guests on Saturday’s episode.
A clip of the episode shows Niall detailing his foray into the music world, revealing he dropped out of school to chase his dreams.
"Did you go to university after school?" Tommy questioned, with Niall answering that he went to "The X Factor" at 16 years old.
Tommy went on to chuckle and admit that he "should probably know this."
"Went on 'The X Factor' when I was 16 and never had a Leaving Cert or anything like that," Niall shared, "Moved to London and never moved home."
"That’s f**king jaw-dropping to me," Tommy confirmed, "How did you get on in 'The X Factor?'"
"Well, I made it through a few rounds," Niall revealed.
"Were they going around Mullingar looking for sad kids?" Tommy joked, "Was it part of an outreach program?"
Social media users took to the comments full of praise and love for the Mullingar man, with one person praising: "Best interview. A gent so humble and decent."
Another echoed: "That was a superb interview. I’m in my 70s — know of Niall Horan but not in depth. He presented as a genuinely decent human being."
A third commented: "Niall is so Irish. Class act."
It comes not long after the singer revealed he may need to undergo a double hip operation as he revealed his hips were "going."
The 32-year-old had reconstructive surgery on his knee over a decade ago and then needed injection in his other knee nine years later after tearing a tendon.
So he reckons it’s his genetics that have let him down, and suggested it’s just a matter of time until he needs an intervention.
Last month, the singer admitted his knees were "f***ed" and his hips were "going now too."
