Barry Keoghan has addressed rumours about his split from Sabrina Carpenter for the first time in a telling new interview.
Speaking on the ‘Friends Keep Secrets’ podcast with Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco, the Dublin actor admitted he stepped back from public life as speculation around the breakup intensified.
‘I feel in a safe space to say this… but I have been avoiding stuff,’ he said, explaining he had come off Instagram, stopped attending events and pulled back from socialising.
The Saltburn star said the decision came in response to a narrative he insists is ‘not true’ – one he had never publicly addressed until now.
‘I never confirmed or said anything about it… I just disappeared,’ he added.
When asked directly if the rumours involved cheating, Keoghan confirmed that was the speculation he was referring to, but stopped short of going into detail.

‘I don’t want to ever bring anyone else into it,’ he said. ‘Unfortunately, having a relationship in the public eye… it gets put out there and it’s amplified.’
He also stressed that he doesn’t believe it’s fair for either himself or his ex to speak publicly on each other’s behalf.
‘It’s a hard one… I never want to speak on behalf of other people or involve them,’ he said.
Keoghan, best known for roles in The Batman and The Banshees of Inisherin, was first linked to Carpenter in late 2023 after the pair were spotted on a dinner date in Los Angeles.
They appeared to confirm the relationship soon after when they were seen sharing a kiss during a visit to an interactive museum.

By December 2024, however, it was confirmed the pair had gone their separate ways, with rumours quickly circulating online that Keoghan had been unfaithful with influencer Breckie Hill.
Hill later denied the claims, saying she had never even met the actor in real life.
Keoghan, who shares a young son with former partner Alyson Sandro, deactivated his Instagram account at the time amid the backlash.
