When people think of Waterford the first connection they make is the obvious one. Waterford and crystal are synonymous with quality. But to think of the county in purely those terms is to do it a disservice. Waterford is a beautiful coastal area of the country splendidly placed to enjoy the warm Atlantic currents and with all the amenities of modern urban living in Waterford Town.

Whatever sport or activity you're interested in doing, in Waterford you can be assured to doing it against a backdrop of spectacular scenery and an unspoilt environment. There is good angling throughout the county in the crystal pure lakes and rivers. Waterford's seaside resorts are nationally famous and the recipient of European awards.

Waterford is also notable for its cultural and historical attractions. The town itself boats Reginald's Tower on the quay. The structure dates from the late 12th century and is the oldest urban civic building in the country. The museum houses two fascinating collections. On the ground floor, artefacts from the Viking and Medieval periods are on display. The mezzanine floor houses one of Ireland's great collections of decorated charters and civic regalia.

Elsewhere in Waterford Town the Treasures at the Granary visitors centre gives an overview of the town's history throughout the centuries and of course no visit to Waterford is complete without a trip to the world famous Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre where the world's finest crystal is made by some of the greatest artists and craftsmen in the country.

Outside of the town there is still plenty to see and do. The seaside town of Tramore has miles of golden beaches and every kind of watersport available for the beginner and the expert. Dungarvan is beautifully set on Dungarvan Bay and is the starting point for several driving tours of the county along the coast. With many to choose from including a drive through the Gaeltacht area of Waterford or the Comeragh Mountains the one thing every route has in common is the moving beauty of the countryside one passes.

Waterford has long been called the Crystal County and every year thousands of people come to the county to visit the home of Waterford Crystal but find themselves equally enchanted by the rest of the county. By the splendour of the scenery, by the warmth of the welcome and by the heartfelt wishes of the locals that you'll return.
