Netflix UK recently announced some new upcoming titles, including two new Irish series - an ensemble family drama based on a best-selling novel from Irish author Marian Keyes and a historical drama about the Guinness family.

"House of Guinness"

The streaming giant revealed that 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight will bring the epic story of the Guinness family to the small screen.

The new series, set in 19th-century Dublin and New York,  will open with the death of Benjamin Guinness, the man credited with the success of the family brewery. The show will focus on the aftermath of his death and "the far-reaching impact of his cunning will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the growing juggernaut that is Guinness."

Knight commented in a press release: "The Guinness dynasty is known the world over – wealth, poverty, power, influence, and great tragedy are all intertwined to create a rich tapestry of material to draw from. I’ve always been fascinated by their stories and am excited to bring the characters to life for the world to see."

The eight-episode series, which currently has the working title "House of Guinness," is still in pre-production with filming starting the coming months.

"House of Guinness" will be produced by Steven Knight, Karen Wilson, Elinor Day and Martin Haines for Kudos, and episodes will be directed by Tom Shankland and Mounia Akl.

Anne Mensah, Vice-President of Content at Netflix UK, said: "It has all the power of Peaky Blinders but the scale and the sweep of a true family saga. Set in the UK and the US, we cannot wait to see this realized."

There have been no casting announcements, nor has Netflix announced a release date, but the show is likely to get a late 2025 or 2026 release.

The official synopsis for the series reads: "Based on three couples - Nell and Liam, Cara and Ed, Jessie and Rory, like most families, the Caseys are a complicated bunch. Ever-shifting politics. Old and new resentments. Arguments that blow over quickly and hurts that are nursed forever. They’re loyal. Noisy. And bound together by a whole lot of love."

The series, which will premiere on Netflix in 2026, will be adapted for the screen and executive produced by Australian screenwriter Samantha Strauss, with See Saw Films also producing.  Casting for the series has yet to be announced.
