Young Irish American fugitives nabbed after violent crime spree

‘The Dougherty Gang’s’ has finally been caught after their week-long crime spree. The three siblings were nabbed by police in Colorado following a high-speed chase and shootout. Ryan Edward (21), Dylan (26) and Lee Grace (29) have been on the run since August 2.

According to NPR Ryan has a police record listing 14 felony arrests. On August 1 he was sentenced to ten years of probation for sending an inappropriate text message to an 11-year-old girl in Michigan who he had met online.

The three are suspected of firing 20 shots at a Florida officer who had tried to pull their car over for speeding on August 2. They became involved in a high speed (100 mph) chase.

Just hours later three masked bandits walked into a bank in Valdosta, GA, just 210 north. According to the FBI one of the bank robbers had an AK-47 assault rifle while the other had a machine pistol.

Following this sighting a nationwide search for the fugitives began.

According to Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor the high-speed chase on Wednesday started when the siblings car was spotted outside a Subway restaurant in Colorado City. Speaking to NBC he said that one of siblings was in the drivers seat, the others jumped in and they were pursued by deputies.

After roughly 20-miles the Dougherty siblings crashed their car. At times during the chase they reached speeds of up to 100 mph. According to Taylor shots were fired and one of the siblings was shot but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Trooper Heather Cobler of the Colorado State Patrol told Florida Today “That’s affirmed. Right now we’re still assessing the extent of the injuries. No law enforcement officers were injured.”

The Colorado State Patrol Public Affairs Unit tweeted “Short pursuit with 3 sibling fugitives from Florida ends in crash, three in custody."

Authorities had earlier received “credible information” that people matching the three siblings descriptions have been spotted near Interstate 25 north of downtown Colorado Springs. According to the FBI they had also been spotted on Tuesday in a white Subaru with stolen Texas license plates.

Now that the trio are in custody they will be charged and taken before a judge at the earliest opportunity. Officials will determine whether federal or state charges will be followed, according to David Joly, the FBI spokesman. They are being charged with attempted murder and robbery among other charges.

Florida Today also reported that Lee Grace occasionally worked as an exotic dancer at Cheater’s Gentleman’s Club in Cocoa Beach and lived with her boyfriend’s parents on Merritt Island, FA.
