Police in the Caribbean are searching for a gang who killed an Irishman in an frenzied attack on Sunday. The three-man gang hit the man on the head with a sword, when he attempted to help his friends.

Joe Costello (43) originally from Co Dublin, was involved in the attack after he tried to save his friends during what is believed to have been an attempted robbery at a house owned by them in Dominica.

The American couple runs Pagua Bay House in the Marigot area of the island.

The wealthy pair, Rick and Alicia Davison, received minor injuries and remains hospitalized but Costello’s head was hit with a curved sword, which killed him moments later. Most of his family is known to live in the UK.

The gang is said to have disappeared with a few possessions and the Pagua Bay House remains closed until the owners are released from the hospital.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has promised that those accountable for the murder would be punished and says a team of cops are investigating the attack and is sure that they will find the culprits.

The small town has been shaken up by the loss of Costello. A spokesman for Silks Hotel, Costello’s employer for the past nine months, said they were putting together a reward to help catch the man’s killers and described the Irishman as a “hero”.

Poor man. :(
a machette perhaps - stay outta that idyllic paradise. it crawls with rats.
He was hit with a sugar cane knife, not a sword. Someone carrying a sword would be too obvious while a sugar cane knife is common.
