Met Éireann [ Irish meteorological service] has issued a yellow warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim and Sligo, with sleet, hail and snow showers and is due to be in place until Thursday.
Those who live on high ground are said to be affected the most, making roads difficult and dangerous to travel on.
Other counties such as Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry have been included in this warning, but conditions are believed to last only until noon on Wednesday.
The cold weather has been caused by an arctic air mass that will come in from the North, but this will only last until later in the week as temperatures will rise.
Those on the east side of the country will escape some of the cold with highs of seven degrees; however, there will be a chill in the air, making it seem a little bit colder.

Icy patches are expected on the east, as well as hail and strong northerly winds.
Thursday will see a rise in temperatures from three to seven degrees, and there will be a mix of showers and sunny spells throughout the day.
However, we won't be able to escape the cold night air as temperatures will dip to minus three to two degrees overnight.
