It was only last September when Shane Lowry made that iconic putt to secure Europe’s back-to-back Ryder Cups for the first time since 2012.
It was a hugely dramatic weekend of golf, starting with Europe racing out to what was thought to be an unassailable lead amidst the hostile American crowd in New York.
However, Team USA were able to fight back on the final day, and it ultimately took a monumental effort from Lowry to secure the cup and Tyrell Hatton to outright win the trophy, with Europe only winning 15-13.
It was one of the most entertaining weekends of the year, but now we’re only 18 months away from the next one, back in Europe and back in Ireland at Adare Manor.
It will be the first time the Limerick course will host the Ryder Cup, and the first time since 2006 that the tournament has been held in Ireland, last doing so at the K Club in Kildare, where Ireland’s Darren Clarke had a memorable performance just six weeks after the death of his wife from cancer.
The Ryder Cup is always a special occasion, but an expensive one at that. Tickets are currently €450 a day to attend the course for the tournament, but there is one way of attending it for free.
The Ryder Cup volunteer portal is now open for people to apply to be a volunteer at Adare Manor in 2027. The job entails being a course marshal, which has plenty of variations, including managing spectator movement between holes while play is on.

There’s also a course ambassador role, which entails hospitality and being engaging with fans travelling from all over Europe and America for the tournament.
You’ll need to be available to volunteer for all five days of the tournament (two training days and three tournament days) from September 14-19, 2027, and be over 18 at the time of the event. You can check out more about volunteering and apply for it here.
