Two people have been killed and another two have been injured in a shooting incident in Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh this morning, Wednesday, July 23.

"Police are currently at the scene of a shooting incident within the Drummeer Road area of Maguiresbridge," the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said in a brief statement on Wednesday morning.

"We can confirm two people have died, and two people are being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

"We can advise there is no ongoing risk to the public.

"A further update will follow in due course."

The PSNI said the Drummeer Road is currently closed to road users, which may lead to delays on the A4 Belfast Road. 

RTÉ News has reported that the two people who died were a woman and a child, while the two others who were hospitalized are a man and another child.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) separately confirmed that, following reports of an incident in the Drummeer Road area in Maguiresbridge, it received a 999 call at 8:21 this morning.

NIAS dispatched three Emergency Ambulances, one Rapid Response Paramedic, two Ambulance Officers, and an Ambulance Doctor to the incident.

Ambulance control also tasked the Charity Air Ambulance, with an HEMS [Helicopter Emergency Medical Services] team on board, to attend.

Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was
taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast by Air Ambulance, and another to South West Acute Hospital by Ambulance.

Northern Ireland's First Minister Michelle O'Neill said that she was "absolutely heartbroken" by the incident.

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly described the event as "truly devastating."

Northern Ireland's Justice Minister Naomi Long offered her "thoughts and sympathies" following the "horrific incident."

She also asked people not to speculate about the details of the shooting.
