The World Boxing Council has confirmed that Katie Taylor has decided to take some time away from the sport following her third win over Amanda Serrano earlier this summer.
The Bray Bomber has been recognised as "Champion in Recess" by the WBC as the undisputed super-lightweight champion, as she has taken time off to attend to "personal matters."
This has come as the WBC gave Taylor a deadline to either vacate her titles or agree to a third fight with Chantelle Cameron, the mandatory next challenger for Taylor’s titles.
Cameron will now fight Sandy Ryan for the WBC belt, just one of the several belts Katie Taylor has after defending her undisputed title against Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in July.
Cameron had fought Taylor as recently as 2023, as Taylor regained her titles in the 3Arena after Cameron inflicted Taylor her only professional defeat to date.
When asked about completing a trilogy against Cameron, Taylor had brushed off the idea, saying that she "made Chantelle more money than she deserves."

Speaking to the media, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman explained that Katie Taylor was stepping away from the ring for the foreseeable.
"She let us know that she plans to take some time away from the ring to attend to personal matters. The fight she was obligated to take was against Chantelle Cameron; by naming her Champion in Recess, we will order Sandy Ryan to fight Cameron to ratify the WBC super lightweight world title."
Speaking after the latest Serrano win, Taylor didn’t give much away when the topic of retirement came up, saying: "I don’t know. I’m just going to enjoy this victory right now, sit back and reflect and then I’ll make a decision."
