Parts of Ireland received a modest snow dusting

Some parts of Ireland received a dusting of snow on Tuesday night to officially kick off the Irish winter season.

It seems the snow caught some people off guard, including Carlow Weather on Facebook:

“‪I was wondering why so many people were messaging me asking if it was true that it was going to snow tomorrow until I saw some posts on Facebook and online!”

“Snow is only forecast for high or even very high ground tomorrow so no need to panic!‬”

The weather service added that although snow wouldn’t be widespread, the weather in Ireland on Wednesday would indeed be cold and wet.

On Twitter, user Ronan Byrne shared a picturesque view of the Dublin Mountains which were topped off with a dusting of snow:

Looking ahead, Ireland’s weather forecaster Met Eireann is predicting a slightly warmer week next week with temperatures hitting double digits.

Met Eireann said: "Thursday will be cold, but drier and brighter than Wednesday with some sunny spells."

"Scattered showers will mainly affect southern and eastern coastal counties - overall dry elsewhere."

"Afternoon highs will range 6 to 10 degrees Celsius (north to south). Easterly breezes will be mostly light to moderate, but a little fresher along south and east coasts."
