Watch: Dublin coffee shop sees humour in break-in footage as they launch appeal

A coffee shop in Dublin had to see the humour in a break-in to their shop, as they launched an appeal for information.

Tribe Coffee Co in Dublin had its Rathgar location broken into just before Christmas earlier this week, with money being taken and serious damage being done to its truck.

Sharing CCTV footage of the incident to TikTok, which saw the two thieves use a sledgehammer to break into the truck, Tribe saw humour in the tragedy — playing the Home Alone theme song over the CCTV footage.

‘How good is the coffee in Tribe?’ they joked, while others commended them for finding humour in the incredibly upsetting.

‘Love that you found humour in it,’ one commented, to which Tribe responded: ‘we’re just riding the emotions.’

‘When they forget the goji berries on your açai bowl,’ another joked, while another commented: ‘How dare you close when a man needs his coffee.’

In a more serious post to Instagram, the coffee shop wrote: ‘A dark day at Tribe. We were broken into at 3:07am. Every small business’s worst nightmare. Serious damage, money taken, tips gone. Just in time for Christmas.

‘Well done to our staff for getting on with the day and thanks to Durkin Joinery for getting us out of a hole this morning. If you have any CCTV footage or information on a white VW Golf and a Black BMW 1 series in the area around 3am this morning [December 15] please let us know. We’ll have the hounds ready next time.’

The shop’s owners later thanked people for their support both in person and online following the theft, saying in a later post: ‘We’ve really appreciated the support from our community over the past three days. Tonnes of kind words, coffees bought and sound gestures from local businesses. Thank you all.’
