May 22, 2015: Thousands of people celebrate the Yes Result in the Marriage Equality Referendum in Dublin Castle Courtyard.RollingNews.ie

On May 22, 2015, Ireland made history as the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage by popular vote.

In celebration of the tenth anniversary of Ireland's marriage referendum, Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre, in collaboration with GCN (Gay Community News), are curating a community exhibition, set to be launched in Dublin on May 22, 2025.

For the exhibition, the public is being called upon to share their photos, letters, videos, audio clips, and memorabilia, which will "tell the story of this victory, its lasting impact, and what it truly meant," the Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre said.

The submissions will help form the foundation of the exhibition, "honouring the resilience, joy, and love that defined the marriage equality movement."

The Centre said: "Whether you were canvassing on doorsteps, walking down the aisle (before or after), or watching history unfold, we want to hear your story."

Oisín O’Reilly, Outhouse CEO, said: “We want to celebrate not just the result, but the journey – the passion, activism, and deeply personal experiences that made marriage equality a reality in Ireland.

“This is an opportunity for the community to reflect, remember, and celebrate how far we’ve come.”

Stefano Pappalardo, GCN Manager, added: “We’re thrilled to partner with Outhouse on this initiative marking the 10th anniversary of Marriage Equality.

"This is a chance for us to look back and celebrate not only a huge milestone for LGBTQ+ rights in Ireland but also its impact, the moments and the people that brought us to that historic day.

"We’re proud to help capture these powerful stories and memories that made the ‘Yes’ a reality.”

You can submit your story or memorabilia online here, or drop memorabilia into Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre at 105 Capel Street in Dublin.

Selected submissions will feature in a public exhibition hosted at Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre, with more details to follow.

In addition, images, stories, and memories will be featured in a social media campaign and in GCN’s special Pride edition.

Outhouse and GCN invite all members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies to be part of this historic commemoration, saying: "Let’s mark this anniversary together — through your memories, your voices, and your love."

The exhibition is due to be launched at the Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre at 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 22 - exactly ten years on from Ireland's historic vote.
