Irish TV and theatre actor Stephen Swift, 44, passed away on Tuesday and tributes are coming in from friends and fans all over. He had roles in programs such as Game of Thrones, The Tudors, The Clinic, and Fair City, but did a great deal of work in theatre as well.

The Dublin native left behind his wife Deirdre and their two sons Milo and Luke, as well as his parents and siblings. Many Irish celebrities have since paid tribute to his life and works.

Fellow actor, Aoibhin Garrihy, who had acted with him at the Gate Theatre in Dublin, expressed sadness for his passing. “I had the absolute pleasure & honour of playing Jane Bennet to Stephen’s Mr. Bingley and a gentler soul on and off the stage you could not meet,” said Garrihy.

Irish comedian David O’Doherty, another friend of Swift’s, was also saddened by the loss. “Lost one of my best pals yesterday - Stephen Swift,” O’Doherty said on Twitter.

The Gate Theatre’s official Twitter wrote, “Everyone here at the Gate was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and colleague Stephen Swift. Stephen was a much loved figure at the Gate and will be dearly missed. Our sincere condolences to his family.”

His funeral is set to be at 11 am on Saturday morning at Christ Church in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
