Inside the award-winning Dead Rabbit.Thedeadrabbitnyc.com

Cheers! The Dead Rabbit is still considered one of the world's top watering holes.

Despite a fire disaster over the summer, The Dead Rabbit ended 2018 on a high having been named among the 'World's 50 Best Bars'.

The Financial District bar has been ranked 16th on a list of the 'World's 50 Best Bars' as compiled by William Reed Business Media.

The bar, owned by  Irishmen Jack McGarry and Sean Muldoon, previously ranked number one.

The duo's other NYC venture, Blacktail, also ranked at number 41 on the list.

On July 1st, a fire caused considerable damage to The Dead Rabbit building, forcing it to temporarily close its doors - yet thanks to the group effort of staff and owners, it re-opened three weeks later.

The bar is currently still feeling the effects, as its no longer offering hot food and is undergoing an extensive refurbishment. The kitchen is due to reopen within the next month and an extended taproom with cozy snugs will debut by the end of November.

"Next year you’ll see a bar that isn’t just changed – but transformed. Because we’re about to shift gears all over again," the bar owners teased on Instagram.

Their profile on the list reads that the popular bar "is fast becoming a classic… an Irish bar and the best of its genre".

“The coasters at the bar now read ‘Born in a hurricane, forged in a fire’ and will take their place in the Dead Rabbit 2.0 extension next door, which supplies the only thing this bar was missing – capacity for the crowds.”

Dandelyon in London was voted number one. The full list can be accessed here.
