The girls are back! 

Derry Girls is back on our TV screens tonight and we couldn't be more excited. While US viewers will have a little longer to wait, Ireland and the UK will be treated to the start of the second season on Channel 4 at 21:15 (GMT).

While the rest of the world waits, you can catch up on the action with the trailer below which makes the second season look to be as great as the first.

Nicola Coughlan, who stars as Clare on the hit show, tweeted her excitement on the trailer's release:

“Series 2 is so magic, I’m so proud of it and so excited I’m not able,” said Coughlan in later tweet.

In the trailer, we see the girls - and the wee English fella James - continuing their hijinx in Derry, all set against the backdrop of The Troubles era of the 1990s.

Dylan Llewellyn, who plays James, said "the gals are back!:"

The first season of Derry Girls was a runaway hit, and the show was renewed for a second season right after it’s very first episode aired.

Upon the release of the second season's trailer, Siobhan McSweeney, who plays Sister Michael in the comedy,  said she was “thrilled," while Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, who plays Michelle, said she "can't cope."

Mirroring their trailer for the first season, the second season trailer is set to the ever iconic ‘Dreams’ by The Cranberries.

Speaking with RadioTimes.com, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who plays Erin, said: “In season 2 of Derry Girls it’s definitely bigger and braver.”

“I would say there’s no second album fare.

“[Creator] Lisa [McGee] has really outdone herself. Not to say same old same old, but the girls are definitely in the same situation, still a disaster, still a bunch of selfish teenagers, still getting themselves into trouble and thinking they’re right at all times.”

American fans will be waiting with bated breath to see when the second season is available for streaming stateside.
