Saoirse Ronan as Jo March in Little Women (2019) - it just might be her first Oscar. Sony Pictures

Since she was first nominated for an Oscar in 2007, Saoirse Ronan has been nominated for over 200 international film awards and has won 64 of them. However, she has yet to snag one of those coveted golden statues. When will Saoirse Ronan finally win an Oscar?

Irish and American actress Saoirse Ronan had her major breakthrough in 2007 at the young age of 12 when she played the role of Briony Tallis in the film adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel Atonement. Prior to this, she had appeared in two RTE series in Ireland - The Clinic and Proof - and in the film I Could Never Be Your Woman.

Atonement catapulted Ronan into fame, earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and making her the seventh youngest person to be nominated in that category. Though she lost that year to Tilda Swinton, Ronan's career went from strength to strength as she grew up, and she has twice been nominated for an Oscar since - in 2016 for her starring role in the film adaptation of the Colm Toibin novel Brooklyn and in 2018 for the title role in Greta Gerwig's directorial debut Lady Bird.

With three Oscar nominations but no wins so far, Ronan is hotly tipped to be in line for recognition from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - and soon. Ronan has teamed up again with Greta Gerwig for a rendition of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, starring as Jo March.

Will Saoirse Ronan get her Oscar for Little Women?

Little Women will hit theatres on Christmas Day, December 25, 2019, but had it's first screening last Wednesday, October 23, at the Directors Guild in Los Angeles. Ever since then, the Oscar buzz around Little Women has been strong - for Saoirse Ronan in particular.

Many critics who attended the Little Women screening predicted that Ronan will get her fourth Oscar nomination for Best Actress, and hopefully win. Jenelle Riley of Variety called it that Ronan will get her fourth Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Jo March.

Erick Weber of Awards Ace described Ronan's performance as "Fierce" and also predicted she will be nominated.

David Canfield at Entertainment Weekly echoed those sentiments.

And Marc Malkin at Variety also predicted a Lead Actress Oscar nomination for Ronan.
