Fanboys win out, smashing global box offices records and Avengers: Infinity War, as well as Harry Potter in Ireland’s cinemas

Marvel’s long-awaited movie Avengers: Endgame has broken Irish box office records be bringing in €4.46 million ($4.98m) in Ireland alone.

The culmination of the Marvel universe’s latest 22 movies Endgame has smashed Irish records previously made by Beauty and the Beast and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, according to Disney’s press office. It accounted for 76% of all movie trips in Ireland this weekend.

In fact, Endgame has smashed global box office records with the movie taking in $1.2 billion worldwide.

In the US, Endgame smashed records that had already been set by the series previous movie Avengers: Infinity War, which took in $641 million during its 2018 opening weekend.

So far, Avengers: Endgame has also been a massive success with critics raking up a very fresh result on Rotten Tomatoes of 98%.

Alan Horn, Disney chairman, credited Marvel Studios and its president, Kevin Feige, with the movie’s success for challenging “notions of what is possible at the movie theater.”

He told CBS news “This weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world,” Horn said in a statement.

John Fithian, chief executive officer of the National Association of Theatre Owners, told Bloomberg, “This may be the most significant moment in the modern history of the theater business.

“What we’re excited about is that this historic weekend is the kickoff of what’s going to be a nine-month stellar run in the movie theater business.”
