Irish singer Lyra delivered a show-stopping performance at Croke Park on Sunday, as she opened the NFL’s first-ever regular-season game on Irish soil with a soaring rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann. Instagram/Lyra

Taking to the field in a glamorous gown styled with a jersey-inspired twist, the Cork-born star belted out the anthem to a hushed stadium.

The powerful moment was captured on the NFL UK & Ireland’s Instagram, which captioned the clip: "Beautiful rendition of the Irish National Anthem from @thisislyra."

As the Irish and American flags stretched across the pitch and players stood in respect, fans both inside the stadium and watching online were quick to heap praise on the singer.

Many took to social media to call it "one of the best renditions of our national anthem."

"She was incredible. The Irish national anthem is so beautiful. My favorite country in the world," one user wrote.

"Petition Lyra to sing our anthem at events... the passion alone," another penned.

"For our national anthem to be heard across the world and performed in such a powerful way is a huge moment. Well done @thisislyra," a third shared.

In classic Lyra fashion, she had poked fun at herself before the performance.

Sharing a behind-the-scenes post to Instagram, she joked: "On my way to the NFL like Taylor Swift… minus the 14 Grammys, the 34 Billboard Awards, the Time Person of the Year cover, the billion-dollar tour movie, the 100+ sold-out stadiums, and the 3 cats that are probably richer than me."

She added cheekily: "But don’t worry, I’ve got my voice, my sucky-in knickers, and enough Irish sass to make up for it. NFL, brace yourself."

Her star turn came before the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings faced off in a sold-out showdown at Croke Park — a historic first for Ireland.

While the country has hosted several U.S. college football games over the past decade, Sunday marked the debut of a full NFL regular-season fixture, part of the league’s ongoing push to expand its global footprint.

Alongside Dublin, international games this season are also being staged in São Paulo, Berlin, Madrid, and London.

For Irish fans, however, it was Lyra’s anthem moment that stole the spotlight.
