In the column Daniel Avila, who is a Massachussetts attorney and (take a breath here) Policy Advisor for Marriage and Family of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage, bluntly says that 'the scientific evidence of how same-sex attraction most likely may be created provides a credible basis for a spiritual explanation that indicts the devil.'
So if you're gay the phrase the devil made you do it has a whole new meaning this week. We are all made in God's image (except for the gays, obviously).
Elucidating, Avila described homosexuality as a 'natural disaster' caused by Satan invading the wombs of mothers of LGBT children.
It happens all the time apparently.

In case you missed his point, or the implications, Avila spells it out for you: '…whenever natural causes disturb otherwise typical biological development, leading to the personally unchosen beginnings of same-sex attraction, the ultimate responsibility, on a theological level, is and should be imputed to the evil one, not God.'
God would never make anyone gay because if He did then the persecution of gay people (whom God created gay, after all) would be a sin. We simply can't have that. So gay people are the devil's work and you are free to oppress them in any and every way you can.
But telling a mother that the Devil entered her womb and made her child gay is new, even by Catholic standards. Until now we've just had to endure the idiotic sophistry that asked us to love the sinner but hate the sin (that pretzel theology that seeks to oppress whilst appearing compassionate).
But this week Avila, who calls himself 'the bishops' marriage guy,' has shown us the true face of the USCCB, who have refused to condemn his words. This is the man Americas Catholic bishops look to for advice about the LGBT community. He sounds deranged.
Avila's article caused a firestorm and it was eventually pulled with an apology from its publisher, The Boston Pilot. But you have to acknowledge that same source published it without objection in the first place.
Sometimes the mask slips and you get to see what those in positions of real authority actually think about gay people. This week that happened and the silence is deafening.

Oh Danny Boy, it seems that your case to indict the devil is fruitless(Oops)Me thinks you should be after all of the holy versions of Father knows Best which have cost the church millions and millions and millions of dollars that could have been better used to help those who could have used Mother church's help. Now if you are a priest playing patty fingers with children is that the devil at work or as it seems just another Holy Day of subjugation.

Daniel Avila is a sick man. The devil entered his body and made his eye the way it is. You cannot trust someone with a devil-poisoned lazy eye.
Now, in all seriousness, being a Catholic all my life and seriously pondering it at this point, everyone, should mind their own business. Most people have already thrown the first stone. Why do pseudo-Christians ignore the golden rule of the King of Men?
Maybe Gandhi was right when he said "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians." Bunch of hypocrites...
I guarantee that everyone in this forum has sinned, maybe a lesser or greater sin than "being gay", but the magnitude of the sin is not for us to decide. Mind your own business and get a life!
Disclaimer: I'm married with two wonderful kids. I chose that path. The path that others choose is not for me to decide.

I am reading what you say. Here I'll quote it to you: "I believe homosexual acts are (abberant) behavior." I replied that homosexuality is NOT behavior, it is an orientation. Even if you never act upon your heterosexual or homosexual orientation you are still heterosexual or homosexual. It's pathetic that you would accuse anyone of being close-minded and persist in calling homosexuality a behavior after having a gay brother and possibly a gay grandson. People like Mychal Judge ministered to gay men in New York who were Catholics and he did so clandestinely, sneaking out to give last rights, and against the express wishes of his superiors, which you would know, if you knew how the Church reacted to the AIDS crisis in NYC. Thank you for wishing that I have a better life, by the way, I can tell you that I do.

Talking about watching people die of AIDS has zero to do with my positions, and it was the Catholic church that led in the caring of Aids victims in NY. Your just another "IN your face" poor victim of dicrimination. I won't waste my time anymore responding to your attacks and childish name calling. I feel sad for you because you obviously have no love for yourself. I won't see your response or further name calling because I intend to unsubscribe from Irish Central, there are to many people on here who have no respect for anothers viewpoints. Have a better life.

Have you ever watched someone die of AIDS? Do you know they can contract a flu that only birds get that drives them mad first? Do you realize that watching your friend or lover die from that whilst the world and so-called Christians turn their backs and condemn you might make you angry? President Ronald Reagan refused to even utter the word AIDS until 36,058 gay men had been diagnosed and 20,849 had died right here in the United States. It's impossible to think of another stigmatized social group in America who would have had to die in those kinds of numbers before a sitting President even bothered to acknowledge their plight. The Church condemned them as deserving of their fate. I'm surprised the gays didn't set St. Pat's on fire. I imagine Jesus would have been first in line with a match.

Homosexuality is a sexual orientation not a 'behavior.' By claiming it's a behavior you diminish the personhood of all gay people, as if they were somehow acting out instead of being who they were born to be. You do not have a gay brother or a possibly gay grandson because they would know you for the homophobic fraud you are. The Catholic Church was not attacked, Avila attacked all gays as being born of Satan. You have the story and all of your facts backwards. Also, I suspect you're just a troll.

What church did Goebbels attend.? I do have a gay brother and might have a gay grandson, and I am not anti-gay. I believe homosexual acts are abberant behavior. I believe Marriage is a sacrament. I believe that gays, well funded and well organised in union with the ACLU people are pulling a Goebbells by attacking the church and claiming their behavior is perfectly normal, despite the antics at the gay pride parade. Stan James and Hollabackgurl, I have no hatred or prejudice against you, we were all created by God. Attacking religion and especially the Catholic Church is not the way to go; nor is bible bashing which seems to be very popular today. If there is any hatred in my heart it's for the group of ACT UP prople whe desecrated St. Patrick's Cathedral in 1989. Spitting the body of Christ on the floor and throwing condoms all over the altar, while an usher suffered a fatal heart attack. I asked God to forgive them but I can't forget. So imagine what you will about me, I don't care. I am who I am, and don't have all the answers. I will know them in the next life, so God bless you in your struggle, and remember hurt and pain goes both ways. BTW I believe everyone is going to heaven, so try to talk to God everyday about your needs.
