There are plenty of ways to enjoy St. Patrick's Day without heading to the pub

Hey all you non-drinkers out there, here's a list that can make St. Patrick's Day fun without ever darkening the doorstep of your local.

1. Curl up at home and rent 'The Quiet Man.' Simply the best Irish movie for St. Patrick's Day ever made. By the end you'll be ready to move to Connemara yourself.

2.Cook bacon (or as it known stateside, corned beef) and cabbage for you and your beloved. When they came off the ships, bacon and cabbage was the staple diet of the shanty Irish. Tasted good then and as good now.

3. Get down with the kids and play Irish video games together here.

4. Watch some Irish television from Ireland at RTE.ie/player.Catch up on what is happening in the Emerald Isle.

5. Read 'How the Irish Saved Civilization' by Thomas Cahill, which will fill you in on the real St. Patrick and the incredible job he did converting the Irish back in the fifth century.

6. Try to Learn Gaelic, the tongue of your forbears for centuries. Click here for a good place to start.

7. Book a trip to Ireland on the Irish airline Aer Lingus. By leaving after St. Patrick's Day you will save money.

8. Watching the local St. Patrick's Parade on television or in person , and bring the family along.

9. Researching your family name on our roots site here at irishcentral.com

10. Watch 'Jersey Shore' reruns and be glad Snookie, the Situation etc, are not Irish.

Last year it was the parade in Dublin, a few pints with family at Cassidy's and dinner at my son's home in Clontarf. Nice full day.
Not too sure why...but this year we are having a St Patrick's Day party at a friend's home with lots of good stuff to eat and maybe a pint or two....that is 2 days prior to the day, so will be at Molly Blooms on St Patrick's Day. Have to cover all bases.

Number 10: My husband watches it and I've only caught a few scenes, but am so glad I'm not Italian (neither is my husband)!!
Mass first thing in the morning. St. Patrick's Parade in the afternoon and then off with friends and family for an afternoon of laughs and giggles, lots to eat and hot chocolate to take the chill off the bones from a chilly morning out. The film: The Quiet Man after dinner or even the film Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Great Laughs!
