A Donegal video that went viral has made singer Pharrell Williams so ‘happy’ that he burst into tears in the Oprah Winfrey show.
The ‘Donegal Is Happy’ video was shot for ‘a bit of craic’ according to the cameraman Shane Wallace who has been amazed by the reaction.
The Irish video was included in a compilation of 15 similar films shot around the world set to the song ‘Happy’ on the Oprah show.
The top selling artist cried when he viewed the Donegal video made in honour of his hit song.
The Irish Independent reports that Winfrey and Williams watched a huge screen featuring the song in clips from countries all over the world.
Oprah said: “People started putting up videos from around the world of themselves getting Happy. It is just amazing.”
The Donegal video features dancers at the famous Fanad lighthouse in the north of the county.
It then goes on to show butchers from the award-winning McGettigan’s in Donegal town dancing with strings of sausages.
Williams and Winfrey became emotional as they watched the clip with Winfrey telling the Get Lucky singer that ‘it makes me cry too!’
The video was one of 150 made around the world and was shot over three days across the north-west last month.
Cameraman Wallace said he and his colleagues at Wallace Media had been amazed by the reaction to it.
He said: “It’s been nothing short of truly astounding. It’s hard to believe that Donegal featured on Oprah, and that Pharrell broke down in the middle of it.
“If that’s not a good advertisement for Donegal tourism and for all that the county has to offer, then I don’t know what is.”
