World champion Andy Lee is set to defend his WBO Middleweight title on St. Patrick’s Day, with the venue likely in Dublin.

"I think I have earned that (a world title fight in Ireland) and deserved that," the 30-year-old Limerick native said after his victory in December. "Hopefully that will be next, maybe March, St. Patrick's Day."

"Maybe Thomond Park or the 3 Arena in Dublin, somewhere in Ireland and that would be great."

The Irish Independent reports that the bout will most likely take place at the 3Arena on either Saturday the 14th or 21st with Lee’s most likely opponent either unbeaten British Commonwealth and European champion Billy Joe Saunders or Denmark's Patrick Nielsen.

If given the green light, a St Patrick’s Day bout could be worth an estimated €250,000 ($300K) to Lee.
