The Northern Irish accent was rated the sexiest in the United Kingdom.

The prominence of celebrities from Northern Ireland, including Liam Neeson, Jamie Dornan, and Rory McIlroy, may have helped to ensure the popularity of the accent, according to a recent ASDA poll.

More than 2,000 people from across the United Kingdom were surveyed. Seventeen percent said they preferred the Northern Irish accent, while the Scottish accent came in a close second at 15 percent. So apparently, it is the Celtic tones that make nearly everyone weak in the knees.

Only one percent voted the Essex accent as sexy, closely followed by Brummie [Birmingham], Scouse [Liverpool] and Mancunian [Manchester] tones.

Just as well there's some good news for an Irish accent. Last week it was revealed that the Irish accent dropped from the top rank as the sexiest accent in the world to third!

The Time Out Global Dating Survey found that the British accent is the world’s favorite, followed by the American accent and then poor old Ireland and Australian. Imagine how the French feel? Once considered the language of love, now they’re in fifth place with just 7.7% of the vote.

Back in 2009, the Irish accent was found to be sexist according to OnePoll.com, with Colin Farrell being the leading light of scrumptiousness, but it seems that all is lost now.
